Integrated Laser Interlock & Enclosure Systems for UK Research Labs

When operating high-power Class 3B and Class 4 lasers, physical enclosures are only effective if they are intelligently monitored. LockStop specialises in integrated laser interlock systems that link your physical guarding, optical tables, and workstation panels directly into an active, fail-safe control loop.

The system adopts unique technology to ensure your setup is deisgned with a fail to safe topology. We utilise many laser safety components that are already type approved and produce from this, a highly usable and robust laser safety system.

Laser safety interlocks switches are sourced from Idem and the heart of the system is a PIltz safety relay that controls the laser enable signal.

The interlocks are use convenient connectivity to enable fast alteration of the setup. 8 pin M12 sockets are fitted to each interlock Node so that everything can be disconnected or reconnected very quickly. No wire stripping or soldering.

The safety circuit is connected with network cable and is a 2 channel differential signal, making for high noise immunity and long cable runs. Terminations for each interlock are RJ45 plugs.

Nodes can be customised to operate other equipment such as shutter and other non standard items.

There is provision for an external (local) power supply if signifiant current is required.

Laser-Safe Enclosure Guarding and Control

We design safety systems where the hardware and electronics work as a single unit. Rather than treating machine guarding as passive shielding, our systems ensure that access panels, laser curtains, and custom enclosure doors are fully interlocked.

If a boundary is breached or a guard is opened during active testing, the LockStop controller instantly interfaces with your laser beam shutters or power supplies to terminate the hazard within milliseconds.

Tailored for Optical Tables and Custom R&D Rigs

Because scientific research requires constant adjustments, rigid industrial guards don't work. Our systems are engineered to accommodate dynamic optical configurations:
- **Active Interface Control:** Natively supports up to 8 distinct safety interlock channels for multi-laser pathways.
- **Optics Table Guarding:** Seamless integration with optical table enclosures, laser-blocking curtains, and localized shielding.
- **Bespoke Electronics Integration:** Custom design services to wire our fail-safe interlock controllers into legacy or highly specialized scientific laser rigs.

Ensure your laboratory achieves absolute compliance with UK laser safety standards without compromising the flexible access your researchers require

Piltz at the heart of the system

The LockStop system uses a safety aproved Piltz safety relay. Our system adds innnovation, accessability, user management and convenience to an off the shelf product that forms the core of our safety system.

System Overview

Whether you are configuring an advanced optics laboratory or managing a multi-user university research hub, LockStop delivers custom-tailored safety without compromising your team's productivity.

Our laser safety and machine guarding system features innovative ways of simplifying wiring and enhancing safety.

The basic system consists of a master controller unit and a number of nodes. Each node is effectively a laser interlock for each access point you may have.

A conventional safety circuit uses a continuity based connection. This is rather vague and susceptible to environmental interference. Shorts and losses can cause problems:

If a cable is squashed with enough force it could cause continuity
If  a cable is too long the series resistance can read greater than 1 ohm resulting in an indistinct status.

The LockStop system uses an entirely different system to provide the utmost confidence in the integrity of the safety circuit.

System capabilities:

  • Up to 8 interlocks
  • Screen based information on individual interlocks (nodes)
  • Utilises Piltz safety relay (type approved)
  • Pernits long cable runs betweeen interlocks (up to  150 meters)
  • Key acces control
  • Key based override function for testing purposes
  • Unique coded safety circuit signal
  • Wall plug power supply
  • Network cable connectivity
  • Up to 3 laser enable outputs
